Temaril-P®

Temaril-P (trimeprazine with prednisolone) is indicated for the relief of allergic itch and its associated inflammation, as well as itch resulting from atopic dermatitis and otitis in dogs. Its synergistic combination of antihistamine and corticosteroid may allow for lower doses of corticosteroids.¹ Additionally, it’s found to be an effective therapy in various cough conditions, including “kennel cough,” allergic bronchitis, and other coughs of nonspecific origins. This oral tablet is given daily as prescribed by your vet.

Do not use TEMARIL-P in animals with tuberculosis, peptic ulcer, and Cushing’s syndrome. Use with extreme caution in pregnant animals. Watch for evidence of concurrent infection. See full Prescribing Information here.

Dogs

Trimeprazine, Prednisolone

Antihistamine and corticosteroid combination, Oral tablet

Temaril-P contains 5 mg of trimeprazine and 2 mg of prednisolone per tablet.

Please ensure the selected product and quantity are appropriate for your pet, as recommended by your veterinarian. For current availability, please refer to the product selection above.

Temaril-P should be administered as directed by your veterinarian. Please consult your veterinarian before making any changes or discontinuing the prescribed dosing schedule.

If a dose is missed, administer it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with the regular schedule. Do not give more medication than prescribed or two doses at once. If you have questions about your pet’s prescribed dosing schedule (e.g., timing, interval), please contact your veterinarian.

Follow your veterinarian’s instructions as prescribed.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:

Up to 10 lbs. – ½ tablet, twice daily

11-20 lbs. – 1 tablet, twice daily

21-40 lbs. – 2 tablets, twice daily

Over 40 lbs. – 3 tablets, twice daily

After four days, reduce dosage to ½ of the initial dose or to an amount just sufficient to maintain remission of symptoms.

Store in a cool, dry place at a controlled temperature not exceeding 77°F. Keep this and all other medications in a secure location out of the reach of children and animals. Keep the container tightly closed when not in use.

Exposure to extreme temperatures, light, or moisture can affect the integrity and effectiveness of medications. Always store this medication properly (e.g., away from the bathroom, kitchen sink, or other damp places).

The appearance and severity of side effects with Temaril-P are dose-related and are minimal at the recommended dosage level. If troublesome side effects are encountered, notify your veterinarian; they may advise discontinuing the medication or reducing the dosage.

Possible side effects include (but may not be limited to) drowsiness, vomiting, diarrhea, increased thirst/urination/appetite, and restlessness.

Many side effects of corticosteroids are linked to high doses or prolonged usage, including dull/dry skin or haircoat, weight gain or loss, and delayed wound healing. Monitor for these effects while your pet is taking this medication, as they may still potentially occur during short-term therapy.

Contact your veterinarian immediately if your pet experiences significant weight gain or loss; weakness, muscle tremors, or rigidity; extreme behavioral changes (e.g., aggression); vomiting that is severe, appears bloody, or has a “coffee grounds” appearance; black, tarry, or bloody stools; or if you notice any signs of infection (e.g., fever, chills).

Do NOT discontinue this medication abruptly; prolonged treatment with Temaril-P must be withdrawn gradually.

Do not administer this medication to animals with a known or suspected allergy/hypersensitivity to it or any of its ingredients. Allergic reactions to medications may occur. Please inform Vetsource and your veterinarian if your pet has any known sensitivities or allergies, especially to medications and supplements.

If your pet displays symptoms of an allergic reaction, discontinue therapy and call your veterinarian immediately or seek emergency veterinary attention. Symptoms may include (but are not limited to): swollen lips, tongue, face, or airways; difficulty breathing; agitation; profuse salivation; and widespread hives or itching.

While there are no specific drug or food interactions reported for this product, potential interactions may still be possible.

The following drugs* may have potential interactions with this medication: antidiabetic agents (including insulins), aspirin, blood pressure medications (e.g., amlodipine, enalapril, telmisartan), azole antifungals (e.g., ketoconazole), CNS depressant drugs (e.g., hydroxyzine, methocarbamol, opioids), cyclosporine, digoxin, estriol, fluoroquinolone antibiotics (e.g., ciprofloxacin), metoclopramide, NSAIDs, ondansetron, phenobarbital, potassium-depleting diuretics (e.g., furosemide), and SSRIs (e.g., fluoxetine), tramadol, and trazodone.

Please ensure your veterinarian is aware of all medications, supplements, and over-the-counter (OTC) products that your pet is currently using. Your veterinarian may prescribe multiple medications, even if a potential drug interaction may occur. In these instances, your veterinarian may adjust the dosages or monitor your pet more closely.
