Reconcile® Chewable Tablet

Indicated for the treatment of canine separation anxiety in conjunction with a behavior modification plan.

The most common adverse events reported in decreasing order of reported frequency are: decreased appetite, depression/lethargy, shaking/shivering/tremor, vomiting, restlessness and anxiety, seizures, aggression, diarrhea, mydriasis, vocalization, weight loss, panting, confusion, incoordination, and hypersalivation. Reconcile chewable tablets are contraindicated for dogs with a history of seizures or when used with MAOIs. For product label, including complete safety information, see package insert.

RECONCILE is supplied in 8mg, 16mg, 32mg and 64mg strengths; as 30 or 90 tablets per bottle, with a child-resistant cap.

Reconcile Chewable Tablets should be administered as directed by your veterinarian. Please consult your veterinarian before making any changes or discontinuing the prescribed dosing schedule.

While some dogs may show improvement within the first 1-2 weeks of treatment, others may require 8 weeks or longer. Your veterinarian will closely monitor your dog’s progress and may adjust the dosage as needed according to the treatment plan.

The recommended dose of RECONCILE chewable tablets is 1-2 mg/kg (0.5-0.9 mg/lb) administered once daily, in conjunction with a behavior modification plan. A typical behavior modification plan consists of the pet owner implementing standard training techniques based on principles such as rewarding appropriate behavior; coming and going in a manner that does not elicit inappropriate responses from the dog; and teaching the dog to be content while alone.

If your dog does not readily accept the RECONCILE chewable tablet, it may be offered in food or administered like other tablet medications. Follow your veterinarian’s directions regarding how much medication to administer.

If a dose is missed, the next scheduled dose should be given as prescribed. Do not increase or double the dose.

Store in a cool, dry place at a controlled room temperature (68-77°F). Temporary periods of time outside of this range between 59-86°F are permitted. Close the lid tightly between uses and keep the desiccant in the bottle until the medication is finished.

Keep this and all other medications in a secure location out of the reach of children and animals. Exposure to extreme temperatures, light, or moisture can affect the integrity and effectiveness of medications. Always store this medication properly (e.g., away from the bathroom, kitchen sink, or other damp places), as outlined on the product label.

As with all medications, side effects may occur. Your veterinarian can best describe these for you and discuss what to do if you observe any unexpected effects or unusual behavior in your dog. The most serious side effect is seizures (convulsions), which in rare and severe cases can result in death. Based on clinical field studies, some animals may appear more calm or lethargic. Additional side effects that may be observed include: decreased appetite, vomiting, shaking or shivering, diarrhea, restlessness, excessive vocalization or whining, aggression, ear infections, disorientation, incoordination, constipation, excessive salivation and weight loss. Since the introduction of RECONCILE, additional side effects reported are anxiety, dilated pupils, panting and confusion.

Contact your veterinarian immediately if your pet has a seizure or displays any significant behavior changes (e.g., new or worsening aggression, extreme restlessness).

Not for human use. Keep this and all other medications out of reach of children and animals. In case of accidental ingestion, seek medical attention immediately.

This medication should NOT be used in dogs with epilepsy or a history of seizures.

RECONCILE chewable tablets should not be given in combination with a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) [e.g., selegiline hydrochloride (L-deprenyl) or amitraz], or within a minimum of 14 days of discontinuing therapy with an MAOI. Therefore, it is NOT compatible with flea and tick collars containing amitraz. If your pet has used one of these collars within the last 2 weeks, consult your veterinarian before starting this medication.

RECONCILE chewable tablets are not recommended for the treatment of aggression.

Studies to determine the effects of RECONCILE chewable tablets in breeding, pregnant, or lactating dogs and in patients less than 6 months of age have not been conducted. Discuss the risks of using this medication with your veterinarian prior to use if your pet falls into one of these categories.

Do not administer this medication to animals with a known or suspected allergy/hypersensitivity to any SSRI, including fluoxetine, or to any other ingredient in the formulation. Allergic reactions to medications may occur. Please inform Vetsource and your veterinarian if your pet has any known sensitivities or allergies, especially to medications and supplements.

If your pet displays symptoms of an allergic reaction, discontinue therapy and call your veterinarian immediately or seek emergency veterinary attention. Symptoms may include (but are not limited to): swollen lips, tongue, face, or airways; difficulty breathing; agitation; profuse salivation; and widespread hives or itching.

The following drugs* may have potential interactions with this medication: antidiabetic agents (including insulins), aspirin, clopidogrel, dexmedetomidine (Sileo), diuretics (e.g., furosemide), hydroxyzine, ketoconazole, MAOIs (e.g., amitraz, selegiline), maropitant (Cerenia), metoclopramide, mirtazapine, NSAIDs, ondansetron, phenobarbital, phenothiazines (e.g., acepromazine [PromAce], chlorpromazine), sotalol, concurrent SSRIs (e.g., fluoxetine), tramadol, trazodone, tricyclic antidepressants (e.g., amitriptyline, clomipramine), and warfarin.

Please ensure your veterinarian is aware of all medications, supplements, and over-the-counter (OTC) products that your pet is currently using. Your veterinarian may prescribe multiple medications, even if a potential drug interaction may occur. In these instances, your veterinarian may adjust the dosages or monitor your pet more closely.
