Emergency Use Authorization for NexGard (afoxolaner) for New World screwworm (NWS)
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for the emergency use of the approved product NexGard (afoxolaner) for the treatment and prevention of infestations caused by NWS (Cochliomyia hominivorax) larvae (myiasis) in dogs and puppies. NexGard is not approved or conditionally approved for this use.
NexGard is approved for other uses.

Limitations of Authorized Use
NexGard (afoxolaner) is authorized only for the duration of the declaration that circumstances exist justifying the authorization of the emergency use of NexGard (afoxolaner) under section 564(b)(1) of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FD&C Act) 21 U.S.C. § 360bbb-3(b)(1), unless the declaration is terminated or the authorization is revoked sooner.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION:
NexGard (afoxolaner) is for use in dogs only. The most frequently reported adverse reactions include vomiting, pruritus (itching), lethargy, diarrhea, and lack of appetite. The safe use of NexGard chews in pregnant, breeding, or lactating dogs has not been evaluated. Use with caution in dogs with a history of seizures or neurologic disorders.

Usage
NexGard should be administered as directed by your veterinarian. Please consult your veterinarian before making any changes or discontinuing the prescribed dosing schedule. If you have questions about your pet’s prescribed dosing schedule (e.g., timing, interval), please contact your veterinarian.

Manufacturer Dosage and Administration*
NexGard (afoxolaner) is given orally once a month, at the minimum dosage of 1.14 mg/lb (2.5 mg/kg). NexGard can be administered with or without food. Care should be taken that the dog consumes the complete dose, and treated animals should be observed for a few minutes to ensure that part of the dose is not lost or refused. If it is suspected that any of the dose has been lost or if vomiting occurs within two hours of administration, redose with another full dose. If a dose is missed, administer NexGard and resume a monthly dosing schedule.
Flea Treatment and Prevention: Treatment with NexGard may begin at any time of the year. In areas where fleas are common year-round, monthly treatment with NexGard should continue the entire year without interruption. To minimize the likelihood of flea reinfestation, it is important to treat all animals within a household with an approved flea control product.
Tick Treatment and Control: Treatment with NexGard may begin at any time of the year.

Storage
Store in a cool, dry place at a controlled temperature at or below 86°F with excursions permitted up to 104°F. Keep this and all other medications in a secure location out of the reach of children and animals. Tablets should remain sealed in their original packaging and should only be taken out at the time of dosing.
Exposure to extreme temperatures, light, or moisture can affect the integrity and effectiveness of medications. Always store this medication properly (e.g., away from the bathroom, kitchen sink, or other damp places), as outlined on the product label.


Side effects
The most frequently reported adverse reactions include vomiting, itching, lethargy, diarrhea, and lack of appetite.
Contact your veterinarian immediately if your pet experiences severe or persistent vomiting, complete loss of appetite, tremors, difficulty walking, decreased coordination, or seizures.

Not for use in humans. Keep this and all other medications out of reach of children and animals. In case of accidental ingestion, contact a physician immediately.
Afoxolaner is a member of the isoxazoline class. This class has been associated with neurologic adverse reactions including tremors, ataxia, and seizures. Seizures have been reported in dogs receiving isoxazoline class drugs, even in dogs without a history of seizures. Use with caution in dogs with a history of seizures or neurologic disorders.
The safe use of NexGard (afoxolaner) in breeding, pregnant or lactating dogs has not been evaluated. Discuss the risks of using this medication with your veterinarian prior to use if your pet falls into one of these categories.

Do not administer this medication to animals with a known or suspected allergy/hypersensitivity to it or any of its ingredients. Allergic reactions to medications may occur. Please inform Vetsource and your veterinarian if your pet has any known sensitivities or allergies, especially to medications and supplements.
If your pet displays symptoms of an allergic reaction, discontinue therapy and call your veterinarian immediately or seek emergency veterinary attention. Symptoms may include (but are not limited to): swollen lips, tongue, face, or airways; difficulty breathing; agitation; profuse salivation; and widespread hives or itching.

Food and drug interactions
While there are no specific food or drug interactions reported for this product, potential interactions may still be possible. Please consult your veterinarian if you have any questions or concerns prior to use. Contact your veterinarian if your pet experiences any unusual reactions when multiple medications and/or supplements are given together.

Please ensure your veterinarian is aware of all medications, supplements, and over-the-counter (OTC) products that your pet is currently using. Your veterinarian may prescribe multiple medications, even if a potential drug interaction may occur. In these instances, your veterinarian may adjust the dosages or monitor your pet more closely.
