Description
Interceptor Tablets for Dogs and Cats, 6-Month Supply
  • Interceptor (milbemycin oxime) is a once-a-month tablet that prevents heartworm disease in dogs and cats.

INDICATIONS:
INTERCEPTOR is indicated for use in the prevention of heartworm disease caused by Dirofilaria immitis, the control of adult Ancylostoma caninum (hookworm), and the removal and control of adult Toxocara canis and Toxascaris leonina (roundworms) and Trichuris vulpis (whipworm) infections in dogs and in puppies four weeks of age or greater and two pounds body weight or greater.
INTERCEPTOR for Cats is indicated for use in the prevention of heartworm disease caused by Dirofilaria immitis, and the removal of adult Ancylostoma tubaeforme (hookworm) and Toxocara cati (roundworm) in cats and kittens six weeks of age or greater and 1.5 lbs. body weight or greater.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION:
Dogs and cats should be tested for existing heartworm infection prior to use. In a small percentage of treated dogs, digestive and neurologic side effects may occur. Safety in heartworm-positive cats has not been established. Safety in breeding, pregnant and lactating queens and breeding toms has not been established. For dogs over 100 lbs. or cats over 25 lbs., administer the appropriate combination of tablets to cover your pet’s body weight.

Usage
Interceptor should be given orally as directed by your veterinarian. Please consult your veterinarian before making any changes or discontinuing the prescribed dosing schedule.

If a dose is missed: Give Interceptor immediately to resume monthly dosing and notify your veterinarian. Do not give more medication than prescribed or two doses at once.
If multiple doses have been missed, consult your veterinarian prior to restarting the monthly dosing schedule. If you have questions about your pet’s prescribed dosing schedule (e.g., timing, interval), please contact your veterinarian.

Storage
Store in a cool, dry place at a controlled room temperature between 59° and 77°F. Keep this and all other medications in a secure location out of the reach of children and animals. Tablets should remain sealed in their original packaging and should only be taken out at the time of dosing.
Exposure to extreme temperatures, light, or moisture can affect the integrity and effectiveness of medications. Always store this medication properly (e.g., away from the bathroom, kitchen sink, or other damp places), as outlined on the product label.


Side effects
Interceptor is generally well tolerated, and side effects are considered uncommon when given at the recommended dosage.
The following adverse reactions have been reported following the use of INTERCEPTOR: Depression/lethargy, vomiting, ataxia, anorexia, diarrhea, convulsions, weakness and hypersalivation.
Contact your veterinarian immediately if your pet experiences a shock-like reaction, excessive drooling, seizures, tremors, extreme weakness, or decreased coordination (e.g., staggering, stumbling, difficulty walking).

Precautions
Before using this product, please review the manufacturer’s full Prescribing Information for any relevant warnings and safety precautions.
For oral use in dogs and cats only. Keep this and all drugs out of the reach of children and animals.
Do not use in puppies less than four weeks of age or less than two pounds of body weight. Dogs with existing heartworm infections should be treated to remove adult heartworms and microfilariae prior to initiating treatment with INTERCEPTOR.
Do not use in kittens less than six weeks of age or less than 1.5 lbs. body weight.

Do not administer this medication to animals with a known or suspected allergy/hypersensitivity to it or any of its ingredients. Allergic reactions to medications may occur. Please inform Vetsource and your veterinarian if your pet has any known sensitivities or allergies, especially to medications and supplements.
If your pet displays symptoms of an allergic reaction, discontinue therapy and call your veterinarian immediately or seek emergency veterinary attention. Symptoms may include (but are not limited to): swollen lips, tongue, face, or airways; difficulty breathing; agitation; profuse salivation; and widespread hives or itching.

Food and drug interactions
While there are no documented food or drug interactions reported for this medication at the recommended dosage, potential interactions may still be possible. As with all medications, please consult your veterinarian if you have any questions or concerns prior to use. Contact your veterinarian if your pet experiences any unusual reactions when multiple medications and/or supplements are given together.

Please ensure your veterinarian is aware of all medications, supplements, and over-the-counter (OTC) products that your pet is currently using. Your veterinarian may prescribe multiple medications, even if a potential drug interaction may occur. In these instances, your veterinarian may adjust the dosages or monitor your pet more closely.
