Interceptor® Plus

Interceptor Plus prevents heartworm disease and treats and controls adult roundworm, hookworm, whipworm, and tapeworm infections in dogs and puppies 6 weeks or older and 2 pounds or greater.

Treatment with fewer than 6 monthly doses after the last exposure to mosquitoes may not provide complete heartworm prevention. Prior to administration of Interceptor Plus, dogs should be tested for existing heartworm infections. The safety of Interceptor Plus has not been evaluated in dogs used for breeding or in lactating females. The following adverse reactions have been reported in dogs after administration of milbemycin oxime or praziquantel: vomiting, diarrhea, decreased activity, incoordination, weight loss, convulsions, weakness, and salivation. Interceptor Plus should be administered as directed by your veterinarian. Please consult your veterinarian before making any changes or discontinuing the prescribed dosing schedule.

If a dose is missed: Give Interceptor Plus immediately to resume monthly dosing and notify your veterinarian. Do not give more medication than prescribed or two doses at once.

If multiple doses have been missed, consult your veterinarian prior to restarting the monthly dosing schedule. If you have questions about your pet’s prescribed dosing schedule (e.g., timing, interval), please contact your veterinarian.

You can give Interceptor Plus to your dog by hand or by adding it to a small amount of dog food. Administer the chewable in a manner that encourages your dog to chew, rather than swallow without chewing. If your dog normally swallows treats whole, you may break the chewable into pieces and feed them to your dog. Make sure that your dog consumes the complete dose and observe your pet for a few minutes after the administration to ensure that no part of the dose is lost or rejected. If you suspect that any of the dose has been lost, redosing is recommended. Consult your veterinarian regarding the need for year-round administration of Interceptor Plus. To help you remember to dose monthly, each box contains stick-on labels for your calendar.

Store in a cool, dry place at a controlled room temperature between 59° and 77°F. Keep this and all other medications in a secure location out of the reach of children and animals. Tablets should remain sealed in their original packaging and should only be taken out at the time of dosing.

Exposure to extreme temperatures, light, or moisture can affect the integrity and effectiveness of medications. Always store this medication properly (e.g., away from the bathroom, kitchen sink, or other damp places), as outlined on the product label.

Interceptor Plus is generally well tolerated, and side effects are considered uncommon when given at the recommended dosage. The most common side effects of this medication are vomiting, diarrhea, depression/lethargy, ataxia, anorexia, convulsions, weakness and salivation.

Contact your veterinarian immediately if your pet experiences a shock-like reaction, excessive drooling, seizures, tremors, extreme weakness, or decreased coordination (e.g., staggering, stumbling, difficulty walking).

Do not administer this medication to animals with a known or suspected allergy/hypersensitivity to it or any of its ingredients. Allergic reactions to medications may occur. Please inform Vetsource and your veterinarian if your pet has any known sensitivities or allergies, especially to medications and supplements.

If your pet displays symptoms of an allergic reaction, discontinue therapy and call your veterinarian immediately or seek emergency veterinary attention. Symptoms may include (but are not limited to): swollen lips, tongue, face, or airways; difficulty breathing; agitation; profuse salivation; and widespread hives or itching.

While there are no documented food or drug interactions reported for this medication at the recommended dosage, potential interactions may still be possible. As with all medications, please consult your veterinarian if you have any questions or concerns prior to use. Contact your veterinarian if your pet experiences any unusual reactions when multiple medications and/or supplements are given together.

Please ensure your veterinarian is aware of all medications, supplements, and over-the-counter (OTC) products that your pet is currently using. Your veterinarian may prescribe multiple medications, even if a potential drug interaction may occur. In these instances, your veterinarian may adjust the dosages or monitor your pet more closely.
