Bexacat™ Tablets

Bexacat is indicated to improve glycemic control in otherwise healthy cats with diabetes mellitus not previously treated with insulin.

Before using Bexacat, you must read the entire package insert, including the boxed warning. Cats treated with Bexacat may be at an increased risk for conditions called diabetic ketoacidosis or euglycemic diabetic ketoacidosis, both of which may result in death. It is critical that cats taking Bexacat be examined by a veterinarian promptly if sudden decreases in appetite or water consumption occur, or if weight loss, tiredness, vomiting, diarrhea or weakness are seen. Discontinue Bexacat and call your veterinarian immediately if any of these occur, as they could be signs of diabetic ketoacidosis or euglycemic diabetic ketoacidosis. Before giving Bexacat, be sure to talk with your veterinarian about any past illnesses your cat has had, including if your cat has ever been on insulin, as cats that have been treated with insulin should not receive Bexacat. Do not use Bexacat if your cat has experienced pancreatitis, liver disease or reduced kidney function, as serious side effects may occur. Bexacat is available by veterinary prescription only. Cats

Bexagliflozin

Sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor

Bexacat (bexagliflozin tablets) is beef flavored.

Bexacat flavored tablets each contain 15 mg of bexagliflozin.

Please ensure the selected product and quantity are appropriate for your pet, as recommended by your veterinarian. For current availability, please refer to the product selection above.

Bexacat should be administered as directed by your veterinarian. Please consult your veterinarian before making any changes or discontinuing the prescribed dosing schedule.

If a dose is missed, administer it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with the regular schedule. Do not give more medication than prescribed or two doses at once. If you have questions about your pet’s prescribed dosing schedule (e.g., timing, interval), please contact your veterinarian.

Administer 1 tablet by mouth once daily at approximately the same time each day, with or without food.

Store in a cool, dry place at a controlled room temperature (68 to 77 °F). Keep this and all other medications in a secure location out of the reach of children and animals. Keep the container tightly closed when not in use.

Exposure to extreme temperatures, light, or moisture can affect the integrity and effectiveness of medications. Always store this medication properly (e.g., away from the bathroom, kitchen sink, or other damp places).

The most common side effects of this medication include vomiting, diarrhea or runny stools, less interest in food or not eating, lack of energy and dehydration. Regular checkups by your veterinarian are needed to monitor for side effects and to tell if your cat’s blood sugar is responding to Bexacat as expected.

Serious side effects have occurred, with or without warning, and have sometimes led to death in cats treated with Bexacat. Serious side effects may require your cat to be hospitalized and to be given specific treatments, including insulin.

Stop using Bexacat immediately and contact your veterinarian if you notice any of the following changes or side effects in your cat:

Do NOT use Bexacat in cats with diabetes mellitus who have previously been treated with insulin, who are receiving insulin, or in cats with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus.

The safety of Bexacat in breeding, pregnant, and lactating cats has not been evaluated. Discuss the risks of using this medication with your veterinarian prior to use if your pet is in one of these groups.

Do not administer this medication to animals with a known or suspected allergy/hypersensitivity to it or any of its ingredients. Allergic reactions to medications may occur. Please inform Vetsource and your veterinarian if your pet has any known sensitivities or allergies, especially to medications and supplements.

If your pet displays symptoms of an allergic reaction, discontinue therapy and call your veterinarian immediately or seek emergency veterinary attention. Symptoms may include (but are not limited to): swollen lips, tongue, face, or airways; difficulty breathing; agitation; profuse salivation; and widespread hives or itching.

The following drugs* may have potential interactions with this medication: ACE inhibitors (e.g., benazepril), amlodipine, beta blockers (e.g., atenolol), corticosteroids (e.g., dexamethasone, prednisone), diuretics (e.g., furosemide, spironolactone), insulins, NSAIDs, SSRIs (e.g., fluoxetine), sulfonylureas (e.g., glipizide), and telmisartan (Semintra).

*NOTE: This may not be a comprehensive list. As with all medications, please consult your veterinarian if you have any questions or concerns prior to use. Contact your veterinarian if your pet experiences any unusual reactions when multiple medications and/or supplements are given together.

Please ensure your veterinarian is aware of all medications, supplements, and over-the-counter (OTC) products that your pet is currently using. Your veterinarian may prescribe multiple medications, even if a potential drug interaction may occur. In these instances, your veterinarian may adjust the dosages or monitor your pet more closely.
